Trailer Rental Questions & Answers

Everything you need to know before, during, and after your rental.

What do I need to do before picking up a trailer or equipment?

For trailers:

  • Make sure your tow vehicle has the right hitch, ball size, and wiring connector for the trailer you're renting. If you need one, we offer add-ons such as hitches and wiring adapters.
  • Confirm your vehicle is rated to tow the trailer and your load.
  • As the driver, check that everything is secure before you leave.

For equipment (generators, staging, and accessories):

  • Make sure your vehicle has room to carry the equipment, plus straps or tie-downs to secure it.
  • Watch the how-to videos on our Dirigo Maine YouTube channel, or ask a team member to walk you through setup and use.
  • Use the equipment only as intended and follow all safety guidelines, such as running generators outdoors only, well away from doors, windows, and vents.

If you're not sure your vehicle or setup will work, call us at (207) 503-3815 before you book and we'll help you figure it out.

Is pick-up contactless, or can someone walk me through hookup and equipment use?

Either one works. Contactless pick-up is available, and we're also glad to meet you in person at pick-up or drop-off. A team member can help you hook up the trailer, check the lights and safety chains, and show you how to use the equipment.

If you'd like in-person help, let us know when you book or call us at (207) 503-3815 ahead of time so someone is there when you arrive.

How does contactless pick-up work?
  1. Reserve online. Book your trailer or equipment on our website and complete your rental agreement and payment.
  2. Watch the how-to videos. Our Dirigo Maine YouTube channel has short videos on hooking up, loading, and using each rental.
  3. Get your pick-up instructions. Before your rental starts, we'll send you the pick-up address and access details.
  4. Inspect and document. Before you leave, walk around the trailer or equipment and take photos of its condition. Let us know about any damage or concerns right away.
  5. Hook up and go. Connect the trailer, check the lights, safety chains, and coupler, and make sure everything is secure before you drive off.
  6. Return it. Bring it back by your scheduled return time, clean and in the same condition, and take return photos.

Questions or problems at any point? Call us at (207) 503-3815.

Can I extend my rental if I need the trailer or equipment longer than planned?

Usually, yes, as long as it isn't already booked by the next customer. Call us at (207) 503-3815 as soon as you know you'll need more time, and before your scheduled return. We'll check availability, confirm the new return time, and update your rental terms and charges.

Extensions aren't guaranteed. If we don't hear from you before your return time, late fees may apply under your rental agreement.

What happens if the trailer or equipment has a problem or gets damaged during my rental?

Call us right away at (207) 503-3815. If the issue affects safe towing or operation, such as a flat tire, lighting failure, or hitch or coupler problem, stop using the trailer or equipment until you've talked with us.

We'll look at what happened and decide on the next step, which may be a repair, a replacement, or other help. Depending on the cause and extent of the damage, you may be responsible for repair or replacement costs. See your rental agreement for full damage terms.

Reporting problems quickly helps us fix them sooner and keep our equipment safe and reliable for every customer.

What's your cancellation policy?

You can cancel free of charge up to 48 hours before your scheduled pick-up time. If you cancel less than 48 hours before pick-up, there's a $50 cancellation fee.

Do you offer refunds if I return early?

No. Once your rental starts, we don't refund unused days. We hold the trailer or equipment for your entire booking and turn other customers away for those dates, so we can't rent it to anyone else.
